Land library project
What is a "Land Library"?
We call ourselves a land library because we provide access to land and the organizational infrastructure so that members can engage in agricultural, wellness, ecological, artistic, and educational projects, while also holding a collective responsibility for the wellbeing of the land. When we first dreamed about Biblioterre, we imagined it being a place where we could support our community to have access and opportunity to build relationships with land, just like a library supports the community to access books, media, and gathering spaces
At Biblioterre, we believe the land is not a commodity or a resource for extraction but a place with its own rights, where connection, nourishment, play and beauty can happen.
We provide access to a variety of tools, spaces, and resources for working with the land, and also offer members the opportunity to pay fees to lease land and buildings for personal or collective use. It is this variety of projects and land relationships which are managed under the Biblioterre umbrella, and this is why we call ourselves a “land library.”
Land sharing
The Land Library operates on the principles of land sharing, offering a space for people to respectfully enjoy and care for the land. This project prioritizes accessibility, inclusion, and community connection. By promoting sustainable stewardship and facilitating shared use of land, we aim to empower individuals and communities to engage more deeply with the environment.
A vision for connection
The Land Library is not just a physical space but a living example of Biblioterre’s commitment to community care, sustainability, and reciprocity with the land. Whether it’s through hiking, cooking, playing, or working together, the Land Library offers opportunities for people to form lasting connections with nature and each other.
Outdoor recreation
Members and Friends of Biblioterre can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities that encourage exploration, relaxation, and play:
Hiking Trails
Canoeing and Kayaking
Camping
We continue to work on all of these spaces and they slowly become more and more enjoyable each year. Trails are gradually being developed and we hope to build a dock in the near future. We are always looking for volunteers with a passion for these types of projects!
Indoor spaces for collaboration and growth
The Land Library also includes a multi-purpose Community Centre that serves as a hub for education, creativity, and collaboration:
Co-working Space
Meeting Space
Shared amenities
The Land Library offers many resources for a variety of gatherings and projects:
Outdoor Gathering Spaces
Kids Play Area
Cob Oven
Community Garden Plots
Tool Lending Library
We continue to build our shared amenities and seek enthusiastic volunteers interested in building and organizing projects. We are currently offering these amenities to members and Friends of Biblioterre.
