Over the course of 2021, several members have donated various tools to our first tool library. Current categories include Farm & Garden, Home Repair, Automotive, Kitchen, and Art! At the same time, friends in the community have kick-started our tool library with an extensive donation of tools and machinery for working with wood, metal, plastic, and electricity. Over the coming months, steps will be taken to inventory and sort all of Biblioterre’s library items into a database that we intend to make available to members and Friends of Biblioterre through a cloud-based system. This will mean that users will be able to search and reserve tools, resources via their smartphones and computers through Biblioterre’s website (or in a book, for those of us who prefer Off-Grid)! We will also be featuring a Wishlist on our website for anyone who may be interested to make a Biblioterre library donation.

What will the tools be used for? Biblioterre’s libraries will allow members and Friends of Bilioterre (F.O.B.s) to utilize shared resources that allow them to establish all sorts of land-based projects, be they agricultural, ecological, residential, educational, artistic, or otherwise. Libraries are a way to organize Sharing, and sharing allows people in this collective to lower their ecological footprint and lower their cost-of-living without giving up access to the tools and resources they need. Biblioterre hopes that its library system will give its members and friends a head-start in all of their future projects and businesses.

When will members be able to start borrowing these tools?
The tool library is being put to good use on the land, as we continue with the beginning interior/exterior renovations to the farmhouse, and as we begin to establish our first gardens, trail systems, and compost library!
